Spitting In The Face Of The Devil
written and performed by Bob Brader
directed and developed by Suzanne Bachner
Production History
Spitting In The Face Of The Devil was the featured theatrical
event and a crowd favorite, sold out show in the Inaugural
Woodstock Memoir Festival, which was headlined by the
McCourt Brothers—Frank, Alphie and
Malachy. Previously,
Spitting played to a standing room only crowd at
The Fletcher
Gallery in Woodstock, NY. Bob wrote sections of his monologue
in
The Authentic Writing Workshops, led by Fred Poole and
Marta Szabo.

Bob Brader’s acclaimed monologue was originally produced in
New York City by the
John Montgomery Theatre Company  and
Horse Trade Theatre Group  in a three month extended run at
The Red Room, followed by an encore performance in the fall
and its first Woodstock show.

The show was selected as part of The
2009 New York
International Fringe Festival and then picked up for The Garage
Theatre Group Solo Fest in January 2010.  Performances in the
Solo Fest were followed by successful and at times controversial
talk backs which lasted almost at long as the show itself!  The
New Jersey performances were generously supported by
Prevent Child Abuse New Jersey.

Bob returned to The London Fringe Festival in June 2010 with
Spitting which was a huge hit garnering great response from
both  audiences and critics. The June 25th Benefit Performance
for Women's Community House was sold-out.  All proceeds went
to WHC.  James Reaney of The London Free Press called
Spitting In The Face Of The Devil  "THE ONE".   Spitting also
got  4/4 Star rave reviews from 2 different critics from The Beat
Magazine.   Called "Eighty minutes of brilliance!" and "Down to
earth masterful storytelling", The Beat Magazine named
Spitting
"Best Show of the London Fringe".
In this daring, uplifting and comedic monologue, Bob Brader tells the riveting totally true story of
discovering his abusive and charismatic ex-Marine father's dark secret.  Hailed by New York
critics as "brilliant" and "unforgettable", The Beat Arts in London called it "Eighty minutes of
brilliance!", "Down to earth masterful storytelling" and named it "Best Show of the London Fringe".
